Birdy the Mighty Decode First Impressions: Stupid name, Great show.

This town ain’t big enough for two birdys…
Hehe.
Awesome show is awesome. Horrible pun is horrible.
Bullet Summary:

The Federation Investigator,Birdy, along with her companion Tute, spend a year on earth undercover in search of the alien criminal Geega. Upon finding him, a fight breaks out, in which a young boy named Tsutomu is seemingly killed by Birdy by accident. However, he wakes up in his bed the next day, completely fine. That night, he hears a voice, and later discovers that he has “changed” into Birdy.

I love this show and will be blogging it from now on. I can’t think of many things I dislike about it. The action scenes are well-animated, fluid and well directed. Its just sweet to watch Birdy pound the crap out of things.Birdy’s attitude and “tough girl” demeanour (though she can blow things up by just punching them, so less of a demeanour, more of a reality) and Tsutomu’s indifference towards girls (except the school aidoru) is also entertaining. As long as he isn’t Rito a complete pushover I’m happy. Tute’s deadpan/goth gay characters are equally admirable as well. I don’t know enough about Hayamiya, but I’ll be annoyed if she turns out to be “the best friend who wants to be the girlfriend”. So far, though, I’m happy with her character.

Classic.
The BGM is great and really goes wih the setting of scenes in the show, especially during the acton scenes. Don’t know enough about the overall plot to make a judgement but it seems like things’ll start moving along after more ass-kicking by Birdy/Tsutomu. Although this guy is clearly going to be a large protagonist.

You wouldn’t think that he has a doll fetish, would you?

Also loved the OP but the ED only sounded alright, animation wasn’t much with Tsutomu just walking while basically saying “Yo” to the other characters (while they were all in shadow). Overall, it was a great first episode with subtle plot hints and excellent fights; slated at 13 episodes, I don’t expect the animation budget to decline much (which would annoy me. So very much.)
Don’t let me down, Birdy.

Obliteration.
It’ll screw up your whole day.
If anyone wants would like me to do a more detailed summary from now on, its fine, just make a request.
EDIT: Well, I apparently just completely stole the show from otou-san so disregard everything about blogging the show. Please don’t hurt me, otou-san ;_;

Really stupid title + Boredom = Must watch

I thought this one was pretty awesome as well – it reminded me slightly of FLCL (probably because of the main girl…) but without all the crazyness. That being said, it’s nowhere near that level (FLCL = one of my favourite anime). But definitely interesting.
I’ve seen pretty much all the new anime from the summer season that are released so far and my personal favourite is Natsu no Sora… by far.
Damn I got fired before I even started this show? Time to take this old horse out back and put me out of my misery i guess.
Really enjoyed the first episode for this one. Liked the main characters and damn that Tsutomu got so owned by Birdy.
Should be a solid show to follow.
I’ve read the manga last year…aside from the ridiculous name,I didn’t see anything special about it =S But I’ll just check it out anyways.I was informed the anime was going to be a crap version with messed up storylines but it would seem they reverted back to the original plot.
@Omisyth:
You stole the show otou-san is blogging! I still haven’t checked this series out, but I should start soon
@otou-san:
No, you didn’t! You can just take over from now on, since I only thought Omisyth was blogging Double Arts so I didn’t tell him what the other bloggers were blogging, and I should really update the list too.
Just watched it a few seconds ago before I typed this comment…
It was actually awesome!!! …Well, except for the title…

Well, if this goes like the OVA, Tsutomu, while never exactly… well, he’s never going to be the hero of the tale, but I do seem to recall him trying to make an attempt at fighting off a bad guy even though he knew he was really outclassed at one point.
You might want to check out the original OVA – its pretty good, although avoid the dub, as they gave Tsutomu a seriously awful voice.

@otou-san
I am so very, very sorry about that. I didn’t really know that anyone had any shows for the summer season yet.
@blissmo
Could I get a list of what everyone has for the summer season now? I would like to pick a title to follow here, but if everyone’s got something, its okay.

@Omisyth:
Sure thing! I’ll email it to you later when my computer isn’t lagging
No worries, I’ve been on the road and didn’t get the chance to watch Birdy until yesterday, so you saved my ass anyways! I liked it quite a bit, although I think I had some really high expectations that were hard to meet. The manga that this and the OVA were based on was written by Masami Yuuki, who also did Patlabor, and that counted for quite a bit in my mind. Birdy seems to be more light-hearted and less focused on believability (or engineer porn, whatever you want to call it).
But cutting the main character in half first episode? Nice. That’s on par with Shakugan No Shana’s “you’re already dead” opener.
[...] Awesome show is still awesome. Though I’m not crazy about Senkawa and his perverted school chums (plus Hayamiya, who I actually like) zombie aliens, bugmen, fire-shooting, obliteration punches and gay managers make this the best show of the summer, for me at least. For now, I’ll be blogging it over at Yukan! until otou-san wishes to take over, then I’ll probably shift it over here. [...]
