Macross Frontier – 07: I want to drop it, but can’t
Why oh why, no Ranka love?
I was extremely reluctant to watch this episode because there was hardly any Ranka in it and it was focusing a lot on the battle with the Vajra. I’ve been forcing myself to keep up with this series lately because that’s how much I love Ranka and the plotline is interesting too, but the mecha action just bores me to an extent where I don’t understand anything at all and just watch those parts like a toddler watching the news. Sheryl’s song did fit really well with the things happening at the same time, and I’m wondering if Sheryl has some connection with the Vajra as well, or did Alto mistake it for Sheryl’s singing when it was actually Ranka? The new guy reminds me of some calm yet insane person and he’s probably related to Ranka since he played the song which was the only fragment of her memory.

I really enjoyed the ED theme, especially since that particular song is my favourite out of all the songs so far. Sheryl did look quite strange in her costumes too, and I thought that something entirely different was going to happen, but remembered that this wasn’t that yet. Anyway, it was pretty decent but mecha anime ceases to amaze me, although the ones in CODE GEASS get me really hyperactive. Honestly, I would like to drop this series any time soon, but I can’t because Ranka’s in it and it’s beginning to get more interesting. If Alto ends up with Sheryl, I guess I can live with that because none of the pairings I root for ever work out except DaisukexRiku, although the mangaka probably already had that planned out from the start. I was hoping that Luca was going to die but knew after spoiling myself beforehand at Random Curiosity, that Luca was still alive. I also hoped that Ozma would die too … Ah wells, maybe it’s still far too early for anyone to die.
But Setsuna seemed to really like this episode.

I totally forgot about this episode until I watched it alongside episode 8 hehe. Best episode in terms of combat so far, despite the occasionally QUALITY.
How many versions of Macross are there? Macross, Macross 7, Macross Frontier… When will it end? Would we want it to end?
Also, the first image is somewhat compromising. Is it a postmodern comment that has Anime characters watching other Anime characters in a fictional Anime that’s ecchi, in a scathing satire of the erosion of mankind’s grasp on reality that comes from watching Anime?
Or I could have taken that image completely out of context. Like you did really XD

and yeah i LOVE this episodes. GAR mecha battles with plenty of explosions, missile spamming, point defense, beam cannons and ship to ship melee really makes my day a whole lot better.
dont forget the tentacle raep of Luca’s VF as well.

You forgot to discuss Ranka’s “protrusion”. Perhaps her relationship with Hime can be both yuri and yaoi at the same time?
