Antique Bakery – 01: It’s Too Gay For Me

lols, Ono x Tachibana FTW!

This episode started off nicely and all was rather decent until it reached this point where Ono takes Tachibana to 2-Chome, a bar that gathers gay men. Apart from disturbing, the first episode of Antique Bakery as a whole was down-right hilarious, especially Ono’s unexpected introduction of his “demonic charm”. I’m not sure if it’s really worth watching, but it was funny seeing Tachibana’s reaction to all the gayness surrounding him. I haven’t checked out the manga yet, but I get this feeling that in the end, Ono will win Tachibana and during the process, people may stop visiting Antique Bakery because it’s run by gay men.

My favourite character so far, and although he was hardly in it, is Eiji. His part was really dramatic that I kind of found it hilarious when he kept complimenting the cake. Yes, I hate cake with the strawberry on top because I think it’s too sweet, but in this episode, the cake actually looked quite tempting. I couldn’t stand the gayness in the first episode, so I don’t think I’ll be able to withstand the second. Despite the humour, I just find it too disturbing, and it just looked so wrong at the end. I do feel sorry for Ono though and what Tachibana said to him in the past. For some reason, I really like the 3D backgrounds, even though the characters are 2D. Regarding the artwork, it’s not really pretty but bearable, and the OP and ED theme sound awesome too. If this anime is yaoi, then it’s creepy stuff.

    Who do I believe? issa-sa who insists this isn’t yaoi or you who have a different opinion altogether?

    Just kidding, I watched it, and wished it had more gay.

    I usually try to stay away from series like this as it’s not really my cup of tea though the chocolates and sweet stuff are motivating factors. XD

    It’s not even really gay…it’s female marketed induced gay. x.x

    you should’ve watched JR or other BL shows before this one, blissmo. That should give you a whole lot better opinion of this, especially gay scenes :P

    @biankita:

    well, considering this was the first anime ever that had so much gayness, it was quite horrific

    @usagijen:

    My friend in Melbourne tells me there’s a frightfully active gay community down under, so I’m rather surprised by how horrified you are blissmo :P Maybe you should follow your sister out sometime XD

    No, this isn’t yaoi – at the most, its extremely light BL… or, well, the manga was. God knows what they’re planning for this, since so far the adaptation has been awful.

    The manga was kind of like Yakitake Japan in that the focus was on the food… just with some added BL and BL-related humor. But Ono and Tachibana never end up together, so clearly it isn’t run-of-the-mill in that regard, since if it WAS yaoi, then, well, Ono would’ve Junjou Romantica’d Tachibana by now XD
