Someday’s Dreamers: Natsu no Sora – 01: Falling Snow in a Building

Now issa-sa and I can finally have something to enjoy together.

I was extremely surprised after watching this because it turned out better than I thought it would be, and I actually resisted from downloading Rumi subs because I had promised Impz on the IRC Channel (actually, he just said it and I had no choice) to download this episode when WhiteLight subs released it. So anyway, it was really enjoyable to watch, and although I didn’t get that “THIS IS SO FCUKING GOOD, I NEED MORE ANIME” feeling at the end, something about Someday’s Dreamers makes me feel at peace. It’s really nostalgic, simple and rather touching. The only slice-of-life anime I’ve ever managed to complete was Minami-ke and I can guarantee you that this will be the second one.
Without no idea, whatsoever, about what Someday’s Dreamers was about, I was really surprised that it involved magic and that Sora, a lovely main protaginist who’s hard to hate because of her cuteness, was going to transfer in order to train. It was also really sad that Sora had to part from her mother, and those two get along so well that it’s kind of hard to imagine a typical teenage girl these days being so friendly with her mother. I also really loved the OP theme, and the ED wasn’t as good or moving, but it was still pleasant. This vibe I get from watching this episode is similar to that I received after watching 5 Centimeters Per Second, because not only are the voice-overs really suitable, the little romance part was sweet and everything seemed to just flow smoothly. The sceneries were magnificant and everything was just so nice, and it was a good decent episode.
Unlike blissmo, I’ve watched the first season so this was something I’ve been looking forward to for a long time now, and HAL does not disappoint. I think I spent the whole episode mesmerized by the beautiful visuals. Sometimes I even have trouble telling what backgrounds are animated and what backgrounds are rendered from real photos. The photo rendering is not so obvious (unlike say… Hidamari Sketch?) and blends in well with the animated backgrounds. Either way the art is AMAZING (click thumbnails for AMAZING).
I especially enjoyed the bittersweet scene (oooh!! 5 centimeters per second flashbacks) when Michiru confessed to Tooyama in the greenhouse, with the snow lazily falling from the roof and a fitting BGM to boot. Definitely my favourite scene of the episode! (damn I want the song).
My god.. when I finally stop drooling over the awesome backgrounds maybe I’ll actually put in some useful thoughts (or go on to rave about the amazing bgm), because all I can do now is yell “ZOMG AMAZING”. So I may need to go back and rewatch the frist episode and pay more attention to the story this time since I’m pretty sure I was too busy staring at the backgrounds to notice what was going on 50% of the time. Mahou Tsukai ni Taisetsu na Koto is undoubtedly an anime I won’t be forgetting anytime soon!
ps. I know there is a lack of summary, but I’ve always felt that summaries for slice of life animes aren’t interesting, nor necessary. So unless buri-chan wants to add a summary, I think her and I will just keep writing our thoughts on Mahou Tsukai ni Taisetsu na Koto.

ABSOLUTELY my favourite anime this season – and that’s coming from someone who can’t stand “magic” and “magic girl” anime (says a lot about the way they managed to implement it here). And I’m not someone who easily falls for pretty anime either (can’t stand Macross Frontier) but the whole premise is done very well.
I agree, the whole thing reminds me of Byousoku 5 Centimeter, atmosphere-wise, and that’s about as big of a compliment as I can give. Must-download for anyone can enjoy an anime without shounen battles/ecchiness/fox girls.
EDIT: Oh and Irish background music = instant win.
The whole time, all I was thinking was “its so very pretty, SO PRETTY!”. I haven’t seen many slice-of-life, but its the first anime I’ve seen where you can just sit back and let the warmth of the story and the setting soak in and just feel…nice. That’s definitely the word. I look forward to having absolutely no opinion about events that take place in the show while staring at the awesome animation. Sora also looks like Haruka from Noein.
It does have similarities animation-wise to 5 cm per second; that was the only show to make me shed a tear ;_;. They were manly tears, though. Very manly >_>.

My most anticipated series for this season and it’s off to a good start. Knowing that HAL Film Maker is under the helm for this one does tell me that this is going to be best show of this season.
“5 cm per second; that was the only show to make me shed a tear ;_;. They were manly tears, though. Very manly >_>.”
Same here, mine were more manly though.
At the end of Elfen Lied I cried like a school girl though =/ and probably 1 or 2 other shows as well
but did anyone notice how sometimes the characters were not so detailed? Especially in those zoomed out shots :O

You and issa-sa already have something to enjoy together: Baka-Raptor. I understand that you two might want to fight over me so you won’t have to share, but trust me, there’s enough Baka-Raptor to go around.

This looks promising. I think I will add it to my “to watch” list.

Do my eyes deceive me – blissmo likes this show?? (And a post about this show that doesn’t involve the word ’sleepy’??)
Sorry Baka-Raptor, looks like you’ll have to take a back seat to Someday’s Dreamers now
issa-sas last blog post..Another two shows to watch this Summer because of their seiyuu?
@tealovertoma:
By golly, you do not like Macross Frontier?! I mostly keep up with it because the visuals are nice lols
@Omisyth:
I couldn’t stop thinking everything was so pretty either!
@Adun:
Damn right! XD
@Cokematic:
Yes, I noticed, but I thought they all looked really cute
@Baka-Raptor:
According to you.
@A Day Without Me:
And yet you watched World Destruction …
@Stifler:
Haha, it truly is!
@issa-sa:
Man, you do not know me at all
Wait wait wait.What’s up with all the different version of names for this show in English I keep hearing?
Mahou Tsukai ni Taisetsu na Koto:Natsu no Sora
I said/thought it was “The magical messenger/spirit’s most important thing:Sora’s Summer” and well I think I’m the only one who translated it like this (x.x)

@ blissmo:
“By golly, you do not like Macross Frontier?”
I have no interest in ordinary anime.
@ makoto:
The translation most people go for would be “Things That Are Important to Magic Users/Mages”. Someday’s Dreamers is the English name of the manga/anime, not an attempt at translating the Japanese version. And yeah, this Someday’s Dreamers is called “Sora’s Summer”.
I’ll have to check out the other Someday’s Dreamers, is it as good as this one?
tealovertoma : I remebered it being quite good. But honestly, it was too long ago for me to recall properly

Yep… i’m watching this too! i saw the raw of the second episode and i’m so happy that the pace picked up ^^ at least i’m now up to 2 new shows this season.
@ blissmo – Oh, no, Depth watched it, not me – I refuse to come within ten feet of those RPG adaptation craps. I just haven’t had time.

@tealovertoma
Thanks for clearing that up.If its the “English name”,then I guess that explains the extremely warped meaning here.Funmation even translated my beloved Wagaya no Oinarisama to “Our Friend Coo” < << Sounds gay?
