It’s not fair that the fan service shows get the nice artwork!

Way back, I couldn’t resist watching the first episode of Kanokon because the pictures were extremely pretty, or at least, better than what most shows were offering at that time. Watching it was like a nightmare, except it was less scarier than actually being chased by a man holding an axe. I remember finishing the episode and the only things I could remember were all those pantsu shots and face-in-big-boobs scenes. And yet, I even wanted to check out the second episode nevertheless because the artwork for the anime was so darn good, and the main protagonist, the little kid, was really short and adorable! I never did, by the way, after seeing all those snapshots from other blogs.

So like last season, this time I decided to check out Strike Witches despite all the several buttock shots. I know, shame on me for being a sucker for nice artwork ;________; Anyway, at the beginning everything was sounding pretty cool, but I think the “magic” part just sort of ruined it since I was expecting them all to be “just” robots. The action was so and so, and for some one who hates fan service, I found all the butt shots unnecessary, and I actually think that there was more than enough of them. On the other hand, I really like the OP and it was good enough for me to listen to it all, and the voice-overs are brilliant as well. When the raccoon appeared and the old geezer lost control of the car, then Michiko got wounded and was so close to dying, I was extremely excited and thrilled. I was happy to see the blood especially, but then Yoshika “coincidentally” had a strong healing power, and then her mother just had to heal Michiko.

Regarding all the female witches’ clothing, I don’t understand why they don’t wear skirts over their underwear … Seriously. It’s pretty awesome that they use their legs to fly and all, but isn’t it also kind of disturbing to the men? And they could also wear tights instead, or pants, and just take them off whenever they’re about to insert their legs into those robot-rocket-flying things. Yeah, it’s an anime targeted for people who like buttocks, I get it. At the start of this episode, I was thinking that I could actually handle an anime like this since the butt shots went by really swiftly (and yet there were so many), but then the typical introduction to the plot-line started to bore me. I only managed half-way through the first episode because it wasn’t what I expected. It was worse. Definitely not my “bowl of soup” (I hate tea), but I suppose anime with fan service included will always have beautiful artwork because you wouldn’t like an ugly bitch with big boobs … I don’t think. I’d like to follow this series, I really would because the art is sweet, but I cannot handle the pants. Seems like I’ve been reviewing shows I don’t really like lately too.

The theory is that Gonzo’s fanservice vehicles usually have a good artwork budget for their first episode. I’m not sure how correct that is; I don’t like to categorise anime by the studio that produces them. Strike Witches is a little different to Kanokon, in that it’s not a harem setup – the fanservice is not (at least as yet) directed at a particular male character within the show. It’s sort of just there.

But it’s so totally important that they don’t wear anything more other than underwear, for, you see, the source of their energy is at their crotch. I like butts. This is not an anime targeted for people who like butts. In fact these lolis are very japanese in the lack there of in that department with a couple exceptions.

On reflecting, I think some of them wear swim suits under their clothes. Fan service wise, Strike Witches is rather mild when compare to Ikkitousen GG or Sekirei, try those series and it’ll be a great turn off for you (my guess). I like the whole leg booster concept of big robots flying everywhere but it’s a little weird that the girls have ears and a tail coming out when they’re use magic. I wonder whether the males have mahou in this series? Would be cool to see a Strike Warlord of something lol XD

fanservice is already something i’m not surprised with anymore. in fact, not having fanservice is actually much more surprising. i was really disappointed with this show… i like the concept and i was going to pick it up, but the blatant buttshots were just a turn-off.
