Telepathy Shoujo Ran – 01: First Impressions of a Mystery Film

I wonder if it runs in the bloodline.
First I’d like to say: WOW at the excitement and bitch-fight towards the ending. Although this episode didn’t completely blow me away, I was really surprised that they managed to shove so much in one episode and yet not much at all. At the start the chick was playing the violin totally wrong (yes, I just had to point that one out). The rhythm was off to her movement, she was holding the bow wrong, but at least they got the vibrato right. When Rui greeted Ran (first time you hear his voice), I just laughed at how ridiculously feminine and somewhat stoned (or on drugs) he sounded. Rui’s voice is weird, but Ran is rather cute and I like Midori too because she’s pure evil. The dog’s cool — when it was manipulated it burned a man alive (MUAHAHAHA!!!). But overall, this episode reminded me of the past (lol, I don’t know what year, it just seemed old).
The OP and ED themes are okay — nothing really stood out. Unforunately, my feelings are a a bit neutral at the moment, but I suppose I can see some potential in the first episode. I also love Ran’s family — they all seem to get along really well and Ran’s energectic personality must’ve come from them. The pictures aren’t fantastic, but passable; however, the animation quality is great. I hate it how their hair is so gradient as if the animators just used the Gradient tool from Photoshop (maybe they did. You never know for sure). The plotline doesn’t seem so thick as of yet, so I hope there’s some huge twist soon, and I’m kind of over the whole “discovering a power you had within all along” like Impz. So I don’t know if I’d continue watching this, maybe the next episode or so because I’m on term break right now (yay! more anime!), but it did manage to keep me intruigued until the end. I don’t like it how they glow though … it’s kinda lame.

I wouldn’t have minded if Ran had used her MEGA THUNDER attack to take out Midori, but then Rui interefered and ruined everything *sigh*.
Damn sensitive bishounen.
The first ep of Telepathy Shoujo Ran is out and to me it felt exactly like a supercollision between R.O.D. the TV and Kamichu!. Part of that can be attributed to Ran pretty much looking like the lovechild of Anita King and Yurie Hitotsubashi, however in just about every day this show felt like a Brains Base show. The (beautiful) artstyle and animation is a lot like that in the aforementioned shows, the genre ambiguity (seems like shoujo, but not very shoujo, but also action and slice-of-life, only one studio I know of does these things consistently), even the facial expressions reminded me of Kamichu!. So of course the real question is is it as good as a Brains Base show? I honestly can’t say after 1 episode of course, but so far it’s… weird. The greater part of the episode was setup which was pretty much the same as any regular shoujo though I feel they did a good job of making the plot sort of come in alongside the exposition instead of cramming it all into the latter 3rd of the episode, though it isn’t until that point that things pick up. Thus far the characters seem likeable enough – Ran is freaking adorable and the designs are good all around. The girl who will apparently will costar this show has been so far portrayed as THE biggest bitch I’ve ever seen for NO reason, but the opening video insinuates that she’ll turn over a new leaf before long.
The opening video was actually my favorite part of the episode – all the clothes!!! I’m a huge fan of characters with fashion sense < 3 Another great thing was having the same music composer who did Kamichu! (that one was just too obvious) and this soundtrack looks to be just as great. My overall impression of the first episode is that I'll keep watching, but I'm not sure I even know why yet.

I’m going to catch this series so that we can “bitch” about it together. (: I just love “Adventure” and “super natural” genres. (:
@21st Century Digital Boy:
Haha, I love anime with a fashion sense too and every time Kallen wears something different, I get excited
@Hynavian:
Woo-hoo! Bitch time!
lol, Kallen does change clothes, which is good, but she looks like she was dressed by a clown most of the time. I think she needs a Fab 5 visit.
