Xam’d Lost Memories – At A Glance

A bit confusing, but impressive at the same time.

Omni has a short summary over at Random Curiosity.

First off, OP and ED of the show were great. You rarely hear a good Engrish song, but “Shut Up and Explode” by the Boom Boom Satellites and “Vacency” by Kylee both fit the OP and ED nicely. The former’s a good techno-rock song which goes well with the feel of the action/animation in the OP, and the latter’s a J-Pop/rock song that whcih flows with the style of the ED. Though the shows not technically part of the season, it certainly has two of the best OP/ED’s of the summer. The OP is the better of the two, though IMO.

Being animated by BONES, it of course looks stellar, and it has the look of Eureka Seven combined with  fluidity that’s reminiscent of The Girl Who Leapt Through Time, or many Hayao Miyazaki films. The few portions of action (I use the term loosely, as this includes one guy running) seemed, despite the quality of the video I had, to be well animated. The scenery combines something of a modern day suburbian setting with some industrial parts here and there, such as in the airships, and overall it’s a good meshing of style which gives the show a unique feel. There was also a nice light sense of comedy that I hope the show retains.

As for the actual plot, I’m not sure what’s really going on; I understand that there’s a war going on and the pale girl received some sort of power, but there’s also something to do with Postal Law, which I think is really in regards to posting letters, backed up by the use of letters in the OP. There seem to be three main threads: that of the Nausicaa-resembling and her comrades on the airship, that of Akiyuki and his schoolmates, specifically Haru, and that of the pale girl and whatever power she bestwoed on Akiyuki to turn him into a Hollow that “Humanform Weapon”. But ,hey, they can’t reveal everything in the first episode, and they’ve succeded in capturing my interest. If this somehow comes out steadily, I’ll be sure to blog it, or even wait until the season it comes out in Japan and do so then.

If this is as good as you say it is, I’m so going to check it out.
