SOUL EATER – 12: A Frog and Mouse Against a Snake

Soul, don’t join the Dark Side yet!

SHORT-ASS Summary:
Medusa walks into Death City with Chrona and Ragnarok behind her until she’s interrupted by a frog witch and her friend mouse (sorry, forgot their names and I ain’t gonna bother looking it up). Medusa manages to slip pass after shoving her hands down both their throats. At Shibusen, Soul tells Medusa, who’s disguised as the school’s nurse, about his recent nightmares: Soul is in room, listening to some jazz when an imp approaches him from behind a set of curtains and asks him to call for power. Soul believes that having a strong mind take over his is just a means of running away, but when the imp tells him to leave, Soul is reluctant to do so.
Medusa questions this and Soul replies that because once he steps out of the room, he enters a limitless darkness. When he sees a bright light, he moves in to it and all of a sudden, he comes out of Maka’s stomach. Medusa reassures him that this is ordinary and in time, the nightmares will eventually end. In the meantime, Dr. Stein presents Black Star with a pot containing special water. As soon as Black Star pokes his entire hand into the contents, it begins to pull his insides. Black Star reacts immediately and lets go. Dr. Stein explains that if Black Star can put his whole arm into the pot of special water without reacting, it means that he is able to use Tsubaki’s Fey Blade Mode. Maka complains and asks Dr. Stein to give her something like this, but Dr. Stein informs her that it’s not possible since Black Star is determined to do anything by not giving up, but there’s something else that Maka lacks. Not telling her what it is, he asks her to come back when she has the answer.
Back at the infirmary, Soul also tells Medusa that he’s worried about Maka: whenever she sees him, she acts unsure and timid. Just then, Maka comes in to tell Soul to get ready for the party for his recovery and Black Star and Tsubaki’s new soul mode. When she enters, she sees the scar across Soul’s chest and becomes deeply saddened, leaving within a few awkward moments. Medusa is walking into Death City once more when she encounters the frog witch and her partner mouse. The frog witch releases her power (or whatever) while Maka and the others are celebrating at her place. Suddenly, Maka senses the witch’s power and runs off to where it is with Dr. Stein. At the same time, Medusa easily defeats the mouse just before Dr. Stein and Maka arrive. The frog witch quickly transforms into a frog and runs (yes, on two legs) off. Dr. Stein is certain that the witch just then could not have been the one who attacked Maka and Soul, and Medusa suspects that Dr. Stein may know who she really is. However, this doesn’t seem to be the case.
After a while, Soul comes running up to Maka, warning her to not go off like that again. Maka takes a step closer to Soul and rests a hand on his chest, which is where the wound lies beneath his clothes. Maka tells herself that she needs to get over her fears and Dr. Stein admires this from afar. Maka then walks up to Dr. Stein and tells him straightforwardly that she now knows what she lacks. Glad that is so, Dr. Stein tells her and Soul to meet him tomorrow. The frog witch, still in frog mode, stops to take a break some where and reassures herself that she’s safe from Medusa. Sadly, she isn’t as Medusa steps on her intentionally with Chrona and Ragnarok behind her. Medusa tells the frog witch that she wants to test Soul Eater by releasing the “most dangerous” prisoner in the witch jail. Even though if the frog witch is to to do this with the keys Medusa somehow managed to get her hands on, she will definitely be exiled from the witch community and killed. Medusa threatens her again by yelling that she might as well die now, so the frog witch agrees to do the favour.
Thoughts:
I found this episode particularly enjoyable, even though there was hardly any action, and I’m glad that we got to see some moe Death the Kid. I love it when new characters are introduced at the start and you don’t know what the hell is going on until a little while later. The red demon was just freakishly weird, and his head is so big I just want to pop it. I feel sorry for Soul, who trusts the nurse enough to confide with her his nightmares and tell her that he’s worried about Maka. I can’t believe that no one can recognize her as Medusa, and for a second after the frog witch had run off and Dr. Stein and Maka had met up with Medusa, I thought Dr. Stein had figured it all out.
When Dr. Stein was describing Black Star’s personality, his will to even surpass God himself and therefore never give up, I thought more highly of Black Star than just some stupid yet somewhat adorably annoying moron. Medusa’s fight with the frog bitch witch was pretty dull and it was so lame how the frog chick gave up so soon. Also, when I thought she said she could transform and escape from her enemies, I thought she meant as in changing to look like a normal person — not some slow frog that can run on two legs. Maka discovering her weakness was pretty sweet too, how she tried to overcome her fear by touching Soul’s wound. I suppose this episode was to build up the excitement for what’s to come: a battle between Black Star, Soul and Maka and some badass prisoner.

I think the Frog witch gave up easily because she knows well there is a huge gap in magic skill between her and Medusa ( even if she tries to show confidence ), and seeing her mouse witch mate bieng torn apart that easily broke down her will to fight, i mean Medusa didn’t even use magic, it was her pet snakes, and actually the idea she grows that many snakes inside her body is really scary and gross, yuck XD
“moe Death the Kid”
Small mistake, lol. But I wonder… what would moe Death the Kid look like O_O?
Omisyths last blog post..Ikkitousen Great Guardians Epic Battle! Hakufu VS The Crow!
@Hunter-Wolf:
True, but I still didn’t like the way she acted so cocky and then suddenly gave up, and Medusa is definitely awesome since she has a pet snake that comes out of her like that.
@Omisyth;
No, I meant moe alright. Death the Kid is MOOOOOOOE!!
Despite being somewhat behind on Soul Eater, I watched this episode for the “Soul” purpose (HARR HARR HAR… I better have been the first to use that pun DAMN IT!) to watch that Red Demon thing dance! KAWAII!!! ^_^!
This episode was really bitch’in though! I can’t get enough of Medusa’s evil grin! I wish there were a bit more Chrona screen time though
Edit: Banzai for forgetting names! XD
@Jesus159159159:
I can only remember names if they’re repeated several billion times lols
Soul protect is even better than Clark Kent’s glasses at disguising the owner.
