SOUL EATER – 16: Amen to the Power of Symmetry

Just as the title says.

Summary:
Death the Kid’s battle with Chrona begins with him shooting her several times, only after she wonders aloud what’s inside Hell, which she also believes is inside her. The evil spirit bound with the Black Dragon ship is unfortunately still alive, and he interrupts the conflict by firing numerous cannons at them. Death the Kid survives the attack, surprising the evil spirit, but what’s even more astonishing is that Chrona isn’t even touched. Apparently, she has this pinkish force-field surrounding her in a sphere shape. Her hatred towards humans rises instantly and she releases an attack that pierces the ship in two and even divides the sea. Just as Chrona and Ragnarok fly away, Death the Kid decides to tail them and at the same time attempt to shoot them down.
However, seeing the sun reveal itself behind the clouds, Death the Kid can’t help but admire the beautiful symmetry and soon loses track of Chrona. The evil spirit, although his head is not one with the body and his face is split in two, is still alive and rows away slowly on a remnant of the ship. In the meantime, Maka sees Medusa, who is once again disguised as a nurse. Medusa finds it strange that there is not enough black blood in Maka, so she gives her a packet of tablets that will increase the speeding process of the “disease.”Medusa confides in Maka that Soul is having nightmares about a demon, and Maka walks off angrily since he did not tell her. Medusa rummages through the cabinet files to search for Maka’s file, but Stein turns up with it in his hands. Cutting down to the chase, he tells her that she’s a witch, but Medusa shrugs this off as a practical joke. Leaving the room, Stein informs Sid and his Weapon, Nygus, that Medusa is definitely a witch. The pair go off to the witch’s hide-out while Medusa tells Eruka that someone’s coming. Eruka plants bombs in the building so Sid and Naigasu get blown up. Death the Kid asks Shinigami-sama regarding what the Nidhogg had told him about the demon god being close to them, suspecting it has something to do with his father being unable to leave Shibusen.
Thoughts:
First of all, stuff you DSS! Stupid subbers, seriously. And I’m pretty sure that they intentionally pretended that the characters were saying all that crap about being pregnant and throwing a wedding party for Death the Kid. So fucking not funny, you lame-ass shit-heads.
Okay, so anyway, about the episode … yeah, it was kind of ruined because the bloody subbers didn’t know what the hell they were going on about. Regardless, I really enjoyed that short-lived action scene involving Chrona and Death the Kid, and I thought that Chrona’s belief that Hell was inside her was pretty darn interesting. I think Death the Kid steered lots of anger towards Chrona, like, A LOT. Perhaps he really does hate demon gods, or he’s probably angry because of what Chrona did to Maka and Soul, or even, perhaps, he’s angry that Chrona looked down at him. Even so, I sensed a lot of hatred. Just when I thought there was going to be some more Stein action, Medusa had to make it all into a joke, the tensed atmosphere was completely gone, and I’m getting pretty tired of SOUL EATER’s unseriousness. I mean, it’s great that everything, including Death the Kid’s fight with Chrona, could be turned into a comedy instead. So when things do get down to serious business, it just really isn’t there because you get this feeling that something stupid is going to happen again. But at least, thankfully, Sid and his Weapon got blown up for Stein’s lack of confidence to kill Medusa. Although, it’s quite understanding that he got scared of her expression when he accused her of being a witch, EXCEPT that’s not what the subtitles read, so at that time I thought it was just crap.
So I apologize if I sound really aggro right now, but … just … damn subbers … I was so gullible enough to believe that there was a wedding going on and that Death the Kid didn’t want to be a Shinigami any more because he got some one pregnant. I was like “WTF’S GOING ON?! THE WORLD’S INSANE!! WHO’S PREGNANT?! WHO’S GETTING MARRIED?!” Must … never … trust … subtitles … again …

NOOOOO! Don’t be deceived. Turns out the subs weren’t from DSS at all; some idiots released it under their name, probably to ruin their reputation or something, which may have ended up succesfully considering the amount of people that watch the show. They’ve made an announcement.

I have enough of a grasp of the Japanese language and knowledge of the Soul Eater to realise something was wrong within a couple of minutes. Although, I had the patience to just turn it off and wait for Tadashi; no-one’s going to taint my opinion of the show. I watched the other subs later and they were hilarious in retrospect. But I must emphsasise: NOT DSS SUBS. I hate when people go out of their way to ruin someone else
But your aggroness amuses me
Wow, fansubbing is really a cut throat business. Buts seriously somebody really had too much time on their hands.

I usually find dumb expressions annoying, but somehow those seem to fit in perfectly in Soul Eater. I’ve picked this up again for the animation, although I really wish I hadn’t read the manga since the story is pretty good. Ruined this for myself. =(

I figured out that the subbers were terrible, but I didn’t think someone would go this far. I already downloaded the tadashi subs. Thanks Blissmo.
Moral of the story: Read the manga instead. lol

@C.I:
I have no idea if that’s true …
I have a question that is off topic. Why isn’t there a Shiraishi Minoru avatar for any of the writers?
Having seen the Tadashi, I absolutely loved this episode – so I’m sorry it got spoiled for you. Soul Eater has to save up “serious” victory or defeat fights for later on in the plot, otherwise they won’t feel so exciting when they come around. Since Chrona isn’t going down this early, and if Kid lost he’d die, the end of the fight was always going to be a cop out. It was just a choice between making it a joke or cooking up some deadly serious reason why they would stop fighting. Plus, I thought the following stuff with Stein and Medusa was much more exciting than any quick face-off, because it was so unexpected and really advancing the plot for those of us who got real subs.
I don’t think hell is actually inside Chrona, I think that was a metaphor. Chrona thinks everything sucks, and the aggression is a kind of attempt to transcend the shittiness of his/her perspective on life. Kid just thinks Chrona is full of shit and is making excuses for killing people.
I like this show way too much.

@Shiraishi Minoru: See, I’ve never seen Lucky Star so I had to choose carefully and read biographies
@coburn: I suppose so, but it’s also kind of annoying seeing Death the Kid and his symmetry obsession. Like, it’s not even funny any more. Yeah, I knew it was a metaphor about Hell being inside Chrona, so I might not have explained that properly since the stupid subs. I felt that Medusa and Stein’s part had a lot of tension building up too, and I also got really excited, but then I just felt disappointed when Medusa made it into a joke.

Yeah I usually just watch the raws and find the appropriate manga chapter for quick translations. Then wait for Tadashi since that’s a really good sub for the series. Was curious when I heard all this uproar about the subs. Sometimes tough not to look ahead in the manga, but have avoided that pretty well.
I can’t blame Stein or Medusa for not starting a fight there. It would be suicide for either of them really. Medusa would have every person in there after her head. No matter how strong a witch she would get owned by the numbers and the high level meisters that are in there. Stein couldn’t afford to do anything since he’d get killed. Sure he’s good with his soul wave, but without Spirit he’d get killed. They will match up in a fight I’m almost certain of that. Just a question of when such an even will happen.
@FlareKnight: Well, I just hope that we don’t see another Stein and Medusa not fighting, so the next time those two are together, I really hope that they give us some action.

Wow, I didn’t know about the DSS release of this. That’s why I stick to one group and one group only…unless they suddenly stop in which I have to see another group’s…>_> It doesn’t matter if a group releases faster than the one I choose, I stick to one till the end!! ^_^
And Stein really surprised me with his shaking…I thought he was fearless.
