Special A – 05

Nice Boat =3

Summary:
Its that obligatory spring festival thing we see very frequently in school life anime. The SA and the student council have to organise the event together because it has been a school tradition that they both work together on this. However,Kei is not liking this idea one bit while Hikari is enjoying herself. The obvious reason would be Kakei’s constant flirting with HIkari and Hikari’s block-headedness when it comes to telling the difference between being friendly and TOO friendly.Kei excuses himself from the discussion visibly irritated from the ordeal after challenging the student council to see who can organise the better festival.Hikari chases after him to reconcile but ends up only infuriating Kei as she misunderstood his whole reason for acting the way he did.Kei turns this into a contest between the SA and the student council with Hikari on the student council’s side. Both try to out do each other by trying to sell their ideas to the students. As usual Kei blows away the competition by a mile with flashy props and ice-cream.Hikari refuses to give up though and is aided by Akira who has defected to the other side.Kei is not acting himself and the SA members can sense it but they can do nothing but offer their help.Kei is used to doing everything by himself since he was young as Hikari finds out when on a trip to town with Akira to ask the shops to set up stalls for the festival at school.Hikari feels bad about competing against Kei as he seemed depressed when she saw him working alone. The next morning Kakei decides to sabotage Kei’s plans but HIkari stops him and realizes that this contest isn’t right as festivals are supposed to be enjoyed by everyone. So Hikari meets Kei to suggest they do it together as a team with the student council and the SA.Kei agrees and the plans get underway. He divides the jobs out to everyone and they get to work.On the day of the festival the students went on a cruise ship and a were taken to an island resort. The festival is then held there.Everyone enjoys themselves and Hikari says she had fun that day.
Thoughts:
What is there to say? They tried very hard to impress me but I’m not taking the bait.Yea I noticed people saying “This is the best episode ever”. I agree this episode is the best animation wise but as for the plot I cannot agree at all to that.Rather than going around in circles with Hikari and Kei’s relationship, I would much rather see something new.Anything!!So far I don’t see any progress here in the story department after episode 4’s introduction of Kei’s dad. Also, as a guy, it doesn’t help that all all the girls are anorexic which means no eye candy for me.
I am clueless as to why I’m not being transformed into a mindless fanboy yet.In comparison,Ouran Host club brainwashed me into a devoted follower by episode 2.Even Itazura had me hooked by episode 3.Love Com won out by episode 5.WHY?!

Itazura (so far), LoveCom and especially Ouran were consistently entertaining series from the get go.’Special’ A though, has been consistently trying (too hard) at trying to get us to laugh or pay heed to Hikari and Kei, but it hasn’t been very successful at all imho. This being the ‘best’ episode so far really speaks for how low S.A. is as a shoujo romcom or however you want to categorize it.
I wouldn’t agree with the best episode bit that people have been saying…I think #1 was and everything since then has been worse. Not that #1 was absolutely stellar too. It’s hard to be a fan of something without substance. ^_^
I have yet to see anything Special about this show.
