I feel like I deserve a medal for having seen six episodes of SOUL EATER all in one night.
With two weeks into the summer holidays and Christmas drawing to a near, I must admit that finding the time to watch anime is hardly the problem it used to be. I’ve been enjoying every second of extra sleep and spending money on presents (and myself) as if tomorrow didn’t exist. Alas, this post has got nothing to do with my oh-so wonderful life.

After the rather ridiculous assassin, sent by Arachne to retrieve another of Eibon’s creations, plunges to his death, the next episode focuses on Chrona betraying Shibusen. Though a decent character she may be, it saddens me to know that she’s under Medusa’s control once again. Even after both Marie and Maka had showed such compassion towards Chrona, I thought that by now she would have learned to stick up for herself. In any case, Chrona deserves more character development than she’s getting. In fact, she hasn’t changed a bit since she first appeared; she’s still hesitant and easily influenced by those around her.

I enjoy watching the plot enfold as Medusa places herself against Shibusen and Arachne, and while everyone believes BREW is in Arachne’s hands, it turns out that Medusa’s the one who really has it all planned out perfectly. I’m beginning to like the relationship shared between Maka and Black Star because there’s actually a much deeper meaning behind the usual “I like you, you like me” bond. It was obvious from the start that Maka held some form of jealousy towards Black Star, but what surprised me was that she admitted it so “early” in the series. I love it how Tsubaki was willing to help Black Star out and after a simple punch to his head, she was satisfied enough to forgive him.

Professor Stein’s insanity continues to rise and the way he laughs just makes me want to poke him. I liked how Soul was playing the piano and sweating profusely while Death the Kid, Black Star and Maka were fighting against Mosquito. It was kind of funny that his legs ending up being too light for his arms that his waist was lifted in the air. Indeed, Marie is a true inspiration and I’m so glad that we’ve been introduced to a new set of side-characters of equal level to Maka’s team. Again, looking forward to what Kid finds out in the next episode.

Episode 28:
I see that blissmo cheaped both you the reader, and me the co-writer into a post about 2 episodes Soul Eater in one post instead of 1 post per episode like God intended it to be.
Black Star is manpower!

Episode 28:

I see that blissmo cheaped both you the reader, and me the co-writer into a post about 2 episodes Soul Eater in one post instead of 1 post per episode like God intended it to be. Don’t get me started on our previous seven-episoder abomination. But the real atrocity here is the fact that she stole episode 29 from me when she very well knows that episode 28 can be summed up in like 10 words (I probably won’t write only 10 just so I can prove her and myself wrong) and that she knows how much I like lolis and Medusa. The mere thought of combining both lolis and Medusa to make one being was just a vision that came to me in restless dreams, episode 29 made that dream come true and blissmo either fears what I would’ve written or she just is that maniacal and wretched that she wanted to steal it from me.

Now that I actually got all that out of the way, let’s turn out attention to the star of episode 28, Angela! Yes I know episode 28 is all about “Black Star avenging Maka’s paralysis, while focusing on Mifune’s pedophilia,” (Count ‘em, that’s 10 words, bitches!) but I want to focus on my hero, Angela. Yes, yes, I know. Mifune joined the “Dark Side,” Black Star is acting weird and raising my suspicions towards Maka x Black Star love, and that Azusa crossbow Death Scythe was clearly using wall hacks (Ban list plz!), but Angela is the real hero in my mind. Anyone that can stand next to that terrifying mosquito freak and happily play while ignoring that nose is truly worthy of my affection.

Thoughts:

Okay, seriously. I don’t quite understand Mifune’s reasons for wanting to help Arachnophobia, I get that it has something to do with Angela possibly that he only thinks that a world that would accept Angela is a world plunged into madness. So maybe I can understand why Mifune wants to help them, but he knows it’s wrong. I want to see him join Shibusen as a combat skills teacher or something, possibly as Black Star’s personal tutor. I just can’t see anyone in Shibusen hurting Angela just because she’s a witch. I mean, she’s a cute witch that doesn’t harm anyone.

As for episode 29, I was kind of surprised to see that Medusa and Arachne were calling each other sisters and such. The only reason I am surprised is because there is no possible way any anime subber could mess up the word for mother and the word for sister because, in this case, my episode 27 subs clearly lied to me. I think I was mostly happy to see Elka again. I would have hated to see her disappear as a reoccurring character in this anime. By the way, blissmo is totally going to flaunt that age old stereotype that women like sensitive guys in about 4 paragraphs. Don’t let her trick you!

Episode 29:

While in snake-form, Medusa is confronted by a stray dog. Immediately possessing its body, she soon decides to occupy a little girl’s body instead. Meanwhile, Sid reports back to Shinigami, who orders them to preserve Eibon’s journal. Nygas questions the reason behind this but Sid justifies that he has enough faith in Shinigami to comply to his every order. Maka recovers from the curse and is abruptly teamed up with Ox and his Weapon, along with Soul and Black Star in class to defeat Professor Stein. This is so because Stein is training them against Arachne by teaching them Team Resonance in case they encounter her in the future.

Naturally, since this is their first lesson in this area, Ox and Maka end up wounding Black Star by accident. Ox explains that it is Black Star’s fault for hindering him until they both decide to have a fair match. Of course, Stein protests against the idea but realizes that he can’t reason with them. Ox admits that he has always wanted to spar with Black Star but easily loses just as the battle commences.

Elsewhere, Medusa discovers that Arachne already knows where she is, so she goes to meet her. Arachne commends Medusa’s courage to greet her since Medusa betrayed her 800 years ago during their battle against Shinigami. One of Arachne’s servants shows Medusa out just as Mifune, Mosquito and the golem leader reveal themselves. As it turns out, Medusa has Elka spying in Arachnophobia even though Elka had been certain that was finally free. Before departing to Death City in order to re-claim something important, Medusa warns Elka that freedom cannot be bought easily.

Thoughts:

Yeah, well, besides how much I really really enjoyed Black Star and Mifune’s fight, I also really really enjoyed the the song that was inserted during their battle. Anyway, I really like Mifune, but it’s just a shame he’s on the bad side. He’d make a really good teacher though, and I suppose in the end he will become a teacher of Shibusen. Besides the kickass fight scene, Eibon’s invention of taking away human morals looked like trash put together. But it was pretty, in a sense. Black Star was really adorable in this episode, and I don’t know why people find him annoying—-if anything, he’s sweet: to have gone so far to avenge Maka. Hey, every girl likes a sensitive guy.

With regards to episode 29, I initially thought we were going to see a flashback of Medusa’s past, but it turns out that that wasn’t the case. Like JLeeson, I also really like Arachne because she has this awesome seductiveness to her. I thought the fight between Mr. Mozzie and what’s-his-face was pretty pointless, but funny because Mr. Mozzie’s techniques are ridiculous. I knew the Team Resonance was going to turn out bad too but I honestly thought that at least Maka and Black Star could do better than that. Next week looks really promising though, especially because we get to see more of Death the Kid!

At last.

Summary:

Black Star leaves Maka to deal with Chrona while he pursues Death the Kid, and all the while Stein and Medusa’s battle continues. Stein finds himself unable to lay a finger on the witch, but he eventually becomes provoked by the Kishin’s insanity as his “other” side takes over. Maka allows insanity to consume her in order to match her wavelength with Chrona. When she finds Chrona’s soul and sees how Chrona feels deep inside, she opens up to Chrona and in the end, Maka offers a hand of friendship after suffering a few casualties. Chrona bursts into tears, not knowing how she should deal with this situation since no one ever taught her how.

At the same time, Death the Kid almost reaches Elka, only to be stopped by Free. Death the Kid’s attacks are powerless against Free as the wolf-man continuously declares his immortal body. Unfortunately, Death the Kid begins to worry by concentrating on how imperfect his surroundings are. It is only when Black Star arrives in the scene and points at Free that Liz uses this chance to inform Kid that Free has a chain attached to one leg. Death the Kid feels disgusted by the sight, and Black Star doesn’t hesitate for even a second as he rushes in to fight Free. But this intimidates Free as he tries to dodge all of Black Star’s attacks. While Death the Kid is backing up Black Star by firing bullets, he suddenly becomes aware that Free is actually a hologram. Free realizes that his plan has failed and leaves.

Elsewhere, Elka and Free reach the Kishin’s prison, but a lot of their precious time is taken up when they begin seeing illusions caused by the enormous power of insanity. Back in the hallway, Stein reveals his darker side and manages to stop Medusa’s movements by threading her entire body, but this requires full concentration, so if he dares releases the binding technique his head would fall off by Medusa’s Vector arrow aimed directly at his throat. Stein relies on the small chance of surviving and slices Medusa’s body in half. As death takes her, Vector arrows shoot up in the air and rains down like blood. Stein, overpowered by insanity, starts laughing even though due to Black Star’s blunder, the Kishin has awakened. The Kishin crawls out into the open as Maka arrives and tries to grab hold of him, but once in the open, she faints as Soul catches her. Free’s spell disappears and the students held captive in the cube are set free.

Shinigami appears and attempts to put the Kishin back where he belonged, but without a Death Scythe, he is unable to do so as the Kishin, also known as Asura, vanishes. Shinigami remembers back when the two were in the same organization, fighting for justice. Asura had been the most feared among them and he eventually went bad, deciding to devour human souls and swallow his own Weapon. Shinigami defeated Asura by creating a bag out of Asura’s skin and locking him up in Shibusen’s basement. After Asura departs, Shinigami orders Sid to call for all eight Death Scythes, but only four arrive. Maka’s father, Spirit, believes he will get a demotion for not being with Shinigami during his battle with Asura so he finds refuge in cleaning candle stands. Stein arrives to chat with him when two new female Death Scythes appear, Marie Mjolnir and Yumi Azusa. With one of the eight Death Scythes already present with Shinigami, Justin Law, the other four accompany each other as they visit Shinigami. Shinigami gives them each a specific assignment: Spirit is to remain as Shinigami’s Weapon, Yumi is to track down Asura, Marie is to be Stein’s Weapon and teach Maka’s class, and Justin is to help out with rebuilding Death City.

After they leave, Sid asks Shinigami what they should do with Chrona since he believes she should be punished nevertheless. Shinigami decides to let Chrona remain in Shibusen as one of the students. At home, Maka laments over Chrona and refuses to go outside until Soul drags her along and forces her to play basketball with the others. Maka is confused when it comes to playing basketball so her team naturally lose in the match and, as captain of the team, her penalty is going out on a date with her father. Spirit comes and remembers that he has to take care of Stein lest his “other” side opens again, but he is overwhelmed with happiness when Maka asks him to hang out together.

Seeing where blissmo left off and refusing to re-watch portions of episodes I have already seen, I’m going to assume that were are around episodes 26 and 27. Yea, thanks a lot, girly, leaving me only 2 episodes. Even if you did leave me 3 or 4, I will only be talking about those 2 and any other little knick-knack I can think of.

So Chrona has been in a containment room during this entire ordeal and no living person has gone near her. That being said, the only person who has been in contact with her has been Sid (haha, he a zombie, not alive… get it?) She is actually very scared of Sid because of how he looks. You can’t blaime her, Sid is a terrifying zombie-man. This is why, to get her out of her shell and out of that room, Maka is sent to retrieve Chrona. This isn’t any chore for Maka, since she has actually been wanting to see Chrona. So Maka, Marie, and Sid get Chrona out of the room.

Chrona and Maka go on a mission to investigate a golem that went crazy. The odd thing is that golems are supposed to be protective of their owners and villages and such; it’s in their basic nature. Assuming that the Kishin’s madness is at play, they head to the distant village. However, the people don’t accept Maka, Soul, and Chrona kindly. Everyone glares at them as they walk through the town, but one comes up and accepts them kindly. The man is a golem craftsman or something and he talks about the golem that went mad and lures the group out of the village. Turns out he wasn’t so kind after all. He is actually in league with the crazed golem. The weird thing about this is that the golem has a soul and the once kind man turned out to be a weapon.

Now Maka and Chrona have to prepare for a fight against an ancient golem and its super powered chainsaw weapon. This tough skinned, clearly strong monster is out of their league. Even after Maka convices Ragnarok to fight by offering candy. The black blooded demon sword stands a better chance against the golem’s attacks than Maka and Soul.

Back in Death City, Stein’s research has revealed an unsettled discovery. The golem is actually harboring the ancient witch Arachne’s soul. Chrona and Maka are going to need backup.

Since Chrona is absorbing the golem’s blows, Maka goes on the offense. She slashes the golem’s side, but is caught off guard when web-like thread shoots out of the cut; she can no longer move.

To cut to the chase, Justin Law is sent to help the group. Millions of spiders come towards the soul in the golem and form together to make the awakened Arachne. Justin comes along and has a weapon v weapon fight against the chainsaw. However, Justin Law is just too powerful, so Arachne and the weapon run away leaving the golem to slow them down. Now the students are safe, and Justin has completed his mission to protect the kids.

—–

Thoughts:

I’m pretty sure blissmo’s thoughts about Soul Eater are most always going to be something along the lines of “Best episode yet.” or “I love this show.” However, my thoughts are leaning toward conspiracy. I still am thinking that Spirit is somehow an enemy in the grand scheme of things. He escaped Free’s magic box when there wasn’t really any way he could have and he wasn’t with Shinigami when Asura was fleeing. I know, one can argue that he was with Stein, but what if that was just part of the plan. I don’t know.

Btw, new hotties. Medusa’s ancient mother, Arachne and Marie Mjollnir. *drool* This show just gets better and better.

Medusa is hideously beautiful.

Summary:

All the students are still locked in the tower and Shinigami-sama comes clean and tells everything that there is indeed a Kishin (Death God) underneath Shibusen; the only problem is that they have no real idea as to what a Kishin is. This is when he tells the story about the first Kishin, Asura. My initial thought was “Omg, isn’t that the name of the demon stance that Zoro uses and/or isn’t that the name of the one hit kill move in Ragnarok Online?” (but that all doesn’t really matter). We, an all the students, that Asura is one crazy bastard from Shinigami-sama’s old personal unit, The Eight Warriors. He was feared and he desired power so he turned to human souls, and you know the drill… he became a Kishin.

Meanwhile, Stein explains how Shinigami-sama is pretty much a part of Shibusen, Soul talks to his little red Imp friend, and Blair takes on those mouse sisters. During all this, the group progresses further in the long underground corridor and is joined by Death Scythe and, shortly after, Medusa. Now Stein has a weapon to assist him.

Stein then reveals Medusa’s plan and explains their own. When Medusa attacks, Black Star and Death the Kid easily pass her but Maka suffers a few causalities before she finds herself safe on the other side. Just as Medusa goes to land another assault on Maka, Stein stops her with a soul technique. Medusa says they should dance again but Stein rejects it since her feet are sown to the floor by threads of her wavelength. As it turns out, Stein can precisely control anyone’s soul wavelength by a single blow. When Stein is confident that he’ll win, he soars in her direction as she’s pinned to the wall and is about to destroy her, but Medusa uses her Vector arrow which forces him backward—-the same in which the arrow is pointing. Medusa and Stein’s battle pauses when she offers him to join her in creating a new world as scientists.

Meanwhile, Death the Kid easily slides pass Chrona without being noticed because of his enormous speed. Chrona worries over the consequences when Black Star appears to claim his “stage.” The two Meisters ready for a fight when Maka arrives and decides to go against Stein’s idea and fight Chrona herself. At first, Black Star is reluctant and makes a joke out of it, but once he realizes how serious Maka is, he allows her to take his stage.

Thoughts:

This episode was what I’ve we’ve been waiting for: the take off of a serious plot. We get to learn information about the Demon God under Shibusen and just what our heros will be fighting for.

I must say that Death Scythe (Spirit) is kind of fishy. He somehow escaped and got ahead of the group when there were only 8 coffin hole made by Sid and it was a long one way hallway. His character is also over exuberant as if it is masking some sort of secret evil. It may just be me, but it all seems too convenient, but then again that may be the creator toying with us on plot points and such.

I haven’t seen Soul Eater for about two months, but I finally found the mood to watch it today, although I still need loads of catching up to do. After having gotten over Soul Eater for a while, this episode was definitely pleasant. The humour came about at the right moments so I wasn’t upset that the tensed atmosphere wasn’t completely ruined. I loved it how Maka was sensing a “lecherous” soul up ahead and it actually turned out to be her father. I also loved the time Death the Kid just zoomed past Chrona like that. One thing I really like about Soul Eater is that it doesn’t ever seem to drag and I’m always sure to get a good laugh out of each episode.

Summary:

This episode puts us back on track and makes us drool over the preview to 19. In short, it’s a decent set up episode.

It starts off with Elka bringing Medusa the the briefcase from the lab which we see to be filled with the black blood substance; Medusa, Chrona (Ragnarok), Free, and Elka are preparing for a big battle at Shibusen. However, things at Shibusen aren’t near as grim. They are having an anniversary banquet for the school and everyone is dressed up and ready for a good time. Soul looks mega cool, Black Star is a slob, and Kid attempts at a perfect speech to follow his father’s introduction but is cut short from out slobby assassin. Then everyone dances to that adorable song that Excalibur performed to, but Soul stays out on the balcony. Maka tries to get Soul to talk about what’s bothering him, but he doesn’t feel like it so she asks him to dance, but Soul side steps this too by letting Maka’s father dance with her.

Meanwhile, Medusa is conducting an assault on the campus, but is interrupted by Stein who seems excessively drunk and wants to dance. She and Stein begin to dance and Stein starts to interrogate her on her activities and about the Demon God that is sealed beneath the campus. Both of them have murderous intent towards the other. But then Medusa turns it around by asking Stein to join her as she leans in for a kiss.

Just as Medusa leans forward to kiss Stein, a wounded Sid arrives and warns everyone to escape. Our main characters rush to his aid, including Stein, only to look back and discover Medusa disappearing into the night. In the meantime, Free begins working on a spell that produces an Independent Cube, which is a special barrier that will lock everyone inside the party for only an hour. Hastily executing the resonance of souls with his Weapon, Sid manages to summon a tunnel below each of the characters’ feet. This takes them downstairs to Shibusen so that they don’t get locked within the cage.

Outside, the Mizune family arrive as Chrona and Ragnarok escorts them to help Medusa in destroying Death City, while Elka feels guilt eating at her when she remembers how she had to lie to them in order to bring them on her side. Stein takes in the situation and explains to Black Star, Maka and Death the Kid and their Weapons that the reason why Shinigami-sama cannot leave Shibusen is because they have the Demon God sealed within this building. Medusa is planning on reviving this monster, therefore, the group need to go underground and find it before she gets there.

Thoughts:

I wasn’t entirely into this episode, mostly because I recognized it as a set up episode. I was only into this one because of the quaint actions between the students, however I was squealing every time I saw Elka. For some reason I’ve taken a liking to that character. But for the most part, this episode got me pumped up for what we are about to see. I mean seriously! This next fight will be truly epic! That fact stated, Sid needs to take one of the kid’s weapons cause he’s wipe the floor with Medusa wielding a black blood Soul.

Also disregard Blissmo’s following comment about Medusa’s “ugliness.” That is a misconception on her part. We all know Medusa is hella hawt!

What a blast this episode truly was! I was totally engrossed, especially because nothing seemed draggy. After the episode, I was quite speechless, and one of the things I just adore about Soul Eater is that it’s well-paced. Already, we get to see the sealed Demon God in the next episode and it’s only been eighteen amazing episodes of this series so far. Black Star was so adorable at the beginning of the festival, and it was lovely seeing all our characters in new outfits. When Medusa leaned in to kiss Stein, I was wondering why he didn’t back off, or perhaps he was seduced by her ugliness. It’s also a nice thing to see him overcoming his fear of her and becoming quite the scary man himself.

Unlike some shows where one person does something nice for another, but the other person doesn’t realize, Soul learned on his own that Maka had provided food for him. It was really sweet too. The people of Shibusen seem quite stupid sometimes, like acting so surprised when they discovered Medusa to be a disguised nurse. All I could think of was “finally!”, but nevertheless, the ending was extremely cool

From he beginning to the end, he keeps us enchanted by weaving his epic tale of heroics to his newest unsuspecting victim, Ox-kun. Yes, Maka’s number one academic rival has fallen into the annoying endearing hands of Excalibur.

Summary:

The typical story of how awesome Excalibur’s powers are is read to us by Ox-kun as he heads towards Excalibur’s cave at the top of the water fall. During his tread through the water, I can’t help but notice how he is easily passing odds that there insurmountable to even Death the Kid; surely Ox can wield the weapon! He is qualified and equally annoying in my mind, but this episode would soon teach me that he was clearly not GAR enough.

Immediately we start off with the initial “Lame” reaction followed by “Fool” and “My legend began in the twelfth century” rebuttals. All that follows next are ramblings by the holy sword about how his mornings start off with coffee but he clearly drinks tea and allusions to his personal life and past. Apparently, Excalibur has a hawt wife and three kids, was a leader of what appears to be a 1950s American gang, and performed spectacular dances in opera houses.

Meanwhile, our lovable main characters have gathered at Soul and Maka’s to eat and prepare for a big project that is due the next day.

Back with Oxford and Excalibur, Excalibur continues to tell his newly found companion about how he fell in love with a woman, and how soon their relationship came to an end. It was then that Excalibur decided to put the ways of being a gangster behind. Later on he transforms into the sword and permits Oxford to take him in hand and live as a hero among others. Oxford grabs the handle and places it back into the stone, explaining that his intention was to write a report on Excalibur for school reasons, but now he doesn’t want to anymore since Excalibur proves to be annoying. Elsewhere at Shibusen, Liz complains in exhaustion that she hasn’t completed her assignment, but Black Star has. He only scribbled a few words that read: Fool.

Thoughts:

I’m so glad that I finally can keep up to date with Soul Eater. My couldn’t play those mp4 from AEN and Tadashi properly, but now that I have my macbook for college, I’m am ready for all the HD animes the internet can throw at me!

This episode was hilarious! Soul Eater is a very well done show because it holds it’s audience in two key areas: comedy and action (I won’t say that the story or characters are bad, but for the sake of my illustration I must limit it to two). Although this episode seemed filler, I’m betting that it was actually in the manga. I don’t know, somebody who read the manga might want to correct or confirm me on that. Point is, I don’t care if it is filler or not. Excalibur is one of my new favorite anime characters because of this single episode. He’s so adorable, full of himself, and awesome; therefore, the funniest thing the show has to offer as of yet.

To be honest, I wasn’t looking forward to this episode at all and was going to wait for the next episode instead, which explains why this post is so late. But then I saw all the hard-work JLeeson put in and pitied the poor man and decided otherwise; I finally watched it and it was full-on LOL mania. Excalibur is in some way annoying, but adorably annoying, and even though his dance was really repetitive, I thought it was cute. During those scenes involving Excalibur with his gang, I kept wondering why the word “Pencil” kept popping up out of nowhere. I like Black Star’s idea of writing an essay with only a couple of words because then, life would be so much easier. About Excalibur’s children … Why aren’t they half-human? At least episode eighteen looks like some SRS BSNS.

Summary:

Death the Kid’s battle with Chrona begins with him shooting her several times, only after she wonders aloud what’s inside Hell, which she also believes is inside her. The evil spirit bound with the Black Dragon ship is unfortunately still alive, and he interrupts the conflict by firing numerous cannons at them. Death the Kid survives the attack, surprising the evil spirit, but what’s even more astonishing is that Chrona isn’t even touched. Apparently, she has this pinkish force-field surrounding her in a sphere shape. Her hatred towards humans rises instantly and she releases an attack that pierces the ship in two and even divides the sea. Just as Chrona and Ragnarok fly away, Death the Kid decides to tail them and at the same time attempt to shoot them down.

However, seeing the sun reveal itself behind the clouds, Death the Kid can’t help but admire the beautiful symmetry and soon loses track of Chrona. The evil spirit, although his head is not one with the body and his face is split in two, is still alive and rows away slowly on a remnant of the ship. In the meantime, Maka sees Medusa, who is once again disguised as a nurse. Medusa finds it strange that there is not enough black blood in Maka, so she gives her a packet of tablets that will increase the speeding process of the “disease.”Medusa confides in Maka that Soul is having nightmares about a demon, and Maka walks off angrily since he did not tell her. Medusa rummages through the cabinet files to search for Maka’s file, but Stein turns up with it in his hands. Cutting down to the chase, he tells her that she’s a witch, but Medusa shrugs this off as a practical joke. Leaving the room, Stein informs Sid and his Weapon, Nygus, that Medusa is definitely a witch. The pair go off to the witch’s hide-out while Medusa tells Eruka that someone’s coming. Eruka plants bombs in the building so Sid and Naigasu get blown up. Death the Kid asks Shinigami-sama regarding what the Nidhogg had told him about the demon god being close to them, suspecting it has something to do with his father being unable to leave Shibusen.

Thoughts:

First of all, stuff you DSS! Stupid subbers, seriously. And I’m pretty sure that they intentionally pretended that the characters were saying all that crap about being pregnant and throwing a wedding party for Death the Kid. So fucking not funny, you lame-ass shit-heads.

Okay, so anyway, about the episode … yeah, it was kind of ruined because the bloody subbers didn’t know what the hell they were going on about. Regardless, I really enjoyed that short-lived action scene involving Chrona and Death the Kid, and I thought that Chrona’s belief that Hell was inside her was pretty darn interesting. I think Death the Kid steered lots of anger towards Chrona, like, A LOT. Perhaps he really does hate demon gods, or he’s probably angry because of what Chrona did to Maka and Soul, or even, perhaps, he’s angry that Chrona looked down at him. Even so, I sensed a lot of hatred. Just when I thought there was going to be some more Stein action, Medusa had to make it all into a joke, the tensed atmosphere was completely gone, and I’m getting pretty tired of SOUL EATER’s unseriousness. I mean, it’s great that everything, including Death the Kid’s fight with Chrona, could be turned into a comedy instead. So when things do get down to serious business, it just really isn’t there because you get this feeling that something stupid is going to happen again. But at least, thankfully, Sid and his Weapon got blown up for Stein’s lack of confidence to kill Medusa. Although, it’s quite understanding that he got scared of her expression when he accused her of being a witch, EXCEPT that’s not what the subtitles read, so at that time I thought it was just crap.

So I apologize if I sound really aggro right now, but … just … damn subbers … I was so gullible enough to believe that there was a wedding going on and that Death the Kid didn’t want to be a Shinigami any more because he got some one pregnant. I was like “WTF’S GOING ON?! THE WORLD’S INSANE!! WHO’S PREGNANT?! WHO’S GETTING MARRIED?!” Must … never … trust … subtitles … again …

A man cringes in fear as a shadow of an enormous ship overcomes him. The next day, Liz and Patty row a boat to a new town where their next assignment is based on, with Death the Kid shrouded in a dark cloak akin to his father’s and his face veiled behind a skeleton mask. Liz comments on the beauty of this area until they curve into a corner and realize that a large part of the island was “bitten” off. Investigating further on the matter, the trio question on eye-witness of what happened, and although nervous and shaking, he informs them that it was the Black Dragon. Soon, Death the Kid finds himself in a library reading piles and piles of books regarding the Norse mythology of the Black Dragon.

After a while, the group voyage the ocean once more with Liz and Patty rowing the boat and Death the Kid standing at the tip. Just then, the fog becomes thicker and a massive ship materializes before them. Trembling in fear, Liz refuses to get on the ship; however, Patty summons all her strength and rows towards the ship as fast as possible. Unfortunately, Death the Kid demands that Patty do it again since it wasn’t in the centre of the ship. Liz surprises herself by boarding the ship since she was too busy naming Death the Kid an idiot. Kid explains that he can sense many souls and discovers a room holding hundreds of human souls. As he’s about to keep them in order, a pistol points above his chin from below, and a spirit reveals itself to be one with the ship. He declares that he’s collecting the souls to feed a soon-to-be Demon God that’s close to Death the Kid and those who belong to Shibusen. Suddenly, the spirit calls upon the Black Dragon and Liz falls into a trap-door. Patty says that she’ll transform into a pistol, but Death the Kid can’t seem to use her since it won’t be symmetrical.

Searching for her friends and a means out, Liz wanders in fear. A high-pitched voice abruptly interrupts her train of thoughts and guides her to the right path. Liz decides to not even spare a glimpse of where the voice is coming from and refuses to listen to it since she believes that the ghost will eat her. As it turns out, the ghost is actually a young girl who was swallowed by the ship and she wishes the lead Liz back to her friends. Being stubborn as she is, Liz continues to refuse the offer until the ghost yells at her, which is when Liz reluctantly gives in. In the meantime, Death the Kid remembers how his father had arranged many marriages for him, but he chose none until he met Liz and Patty, who were able to merge into symmetrical pistols. When the pursuing spirit catches up to them, he asks Death the Kid where be his powers of a reaper. Death the Kid explains his beliefs on a world of pure balance between good and evil. Angered by this, the spirit aims his gun.

Liz is guided to the deck by the girl when from below, Death the Kid, along with Patty, shoot up into the air. The Thomspon’s Sisters quickly transform into their Weapon mode and Death the Kid readies himself for battle. When the conflict is seconds away from beginning, the spirit’s head is cut in half by a black blade that appears from behind. Chrona and Ragnarok arrive and destroy the evil spirit. Chrona then tells his Weapon to shriek and when it does, all the human souls of the ship gather on deck. Screaming once again, the souls get sucked in by Ragnarok’s mouth and the ghost of the young girl bids farewell to Liz. Knowing who they are, Death the Kid realizes that the Black Dragon is actually Chrona and Ragnarok as Ragnarok merges into Chrona’s body and “evolves”, spreading out torn wings from his back. Liz can’t believe that these two would do something so horrible and Death the Kid announces that Chrona and Ragnarok will be judged.

Thoughts:

This episode was quite nice, but I’d rant on about the lack of action and leaving it for next week. On the other hand, it was Death the Kid so I really enjoyed watching this. Poor Liz had to follow ghosts, and I would be pretty much freaked out as well. I have no idea who would win in the battle between Chrona and Death the Kid, although it’d be nice to see Raganrok getting injured or something. I wonder when Medusa’s going to appear, and if she does, if Death the Kid will get beaten up. But basically, this episode doesn’t really have much to say about except the animation was good as usual, there was certainly some comedy between Liz and her fear of ghosts, Death the Kid’s usual “symmetry business” and Patty’s adorable stupidity. If Death the Kid is smart enough, he’d be able to figure out that the gathering of human souls was for Soul Eater. Anyway, the next episode looks decent with lots of action and the “normal”. Oh and I really liked Death the Kid’s belief in the balanced world of good and evil, but his stance towards the end was so terribly lame and crooked that I couldn’t help rofl’ing.

Summary:

The crowd cheers for Maka and Soul, who is about to be transformed into a Death Scythe after the pair have finally collected 99 souls and one of a witch’s. Suddenly, Maka wakes up from her sweet dream and Soul approaches her to tell her she’ll be late for school. At Shibusen, Dr. Stein reminds them that their Ultra exam is going to take place in three days from now, and he will be the one writing up the test. Maka is determined to get first place and defeat Ox, another student from her class, and aim for the highest score like her mother. Black Star learns from Soul that whoever gets the highest mark from the Ultra test means that they will be able to turn their Weapon into a Death Scythe.

Every one returns home and studies extremely hard, while Death Scythe continues to send Maka “good luck on the test” auras, and Blair tries to find something to do. When the test day arrives, Soul is caught cheeting and so Sid strips him of his clothes. Death the Kid can’t even finish his name because the letter ‘K’ is too crookied. Patty creates a giraffe out of the test papers, and her sister tries to pull a single strand of hair off Ox. Maka double checks her test several times. Black Star was arrested for trying to steal the test papers last night, and Tsubaki manages to do well during the exam. The results are out and Maka gets first place while Ox is second. Death Scythe gives some money to Blair and asks her to hand this over to Maka for him. She accidentally spends it on something else, so when Maka receives her present, Blair had accidentally turned it into an underwear set.

Thoughts:

No doubt this episode was just about having fun, but it was definitely hilarious. Unlike episode 12 where it focused on building up for the next plot, this episode was a filler, or at least, had a filler vibe to it. Not much I can say about this one, but the new ED is totally awesome, Death the Kid is so adorable, and next week it looks like he’ll be getting all the beautiful spotlight with Chrona, which is something I’m really looking forward to. Regarding tests, I’m sort of like Maka in terms of aiming for the top. I don’t always get the highest mark, but I do study for the tests and manage to get somewhere at the top of the class. I usually cram it all in or leave it until the last minute to study for a test because I’m usually confident that I’ll pass, and passing is all I’m really concerned about at the moment lols.

Summary:

The frog witch frees Man of the Demoneye and while they escape, they end up being surrounded by a group of guards. Before attacking, the guards warn the frog witch and the prisoner that they should give up, but the Man of Demoneye refuses to do such a thing since he had been kept in jail for over two hundred years. Metal pikes pierce into the man’s body but he smiles, knowing that he’s immortal. Slowly, he unveils the cloth and above his right eye No Future is written upon it. Screams fill the air. Later on, Man of the Demoneye renames himself as Free after greeting Medusa and insisting that he do her a favour, which is to kill Maka and Soul.

The frog witch still has to do more of Medusa’s errands since she still has a lot of snakes within her, and completing one task would mean that only one snake would be taken out. Meanwhile, at Shibusen, Dr. Stein has Maka and Soul meet him on a Sunday at a special place. He asks them to tell one another the other person’s fault. Maka is disappointed that this is their training while Dr. Stein thinks about how risky this task is: it make Maka and Soul’s wavelength unmatched. Soul starts off by telling Maka how stubborn she is and that she’s not supposed to become stronger to protect her weapon, and in return, Maka wonders why Soul doesn’t wish to become stronger while he remembers the imp offering him an overwhelming power.

In London it’s snowing and Black Star is not thrilled to do co-curricular activities with another team, which is Soul and Maka. Tsubaki notices that Maka and Soul are acting tense around each other and tries to lighten the atmosphere. Suddenly, Free appears before them and Black Star immediately orders Tsubaki to transform into Fey Blade Mode. She doesn’t believe this is a good idea since he still isn’t able to control her, but he reassures her that 30 seconds will be enough. The pair resonance their souls perfectly and almost land a direct hit on Free when Black Star unfortunately collapses unconscious in the snow. Soul abruptly appears below Free and his hand, in scythe form, pierces through Free’s chest.

Free shows them his “true” self while Maka continues to get beat up because she can’t seem to hold Soul in his Weapon form any more, since their soul wavelengths are totally unmatched. The Meister and Weapon constantly argue with each other until Tsubaki yells at them for being too selfish and not listening to each other. Soul points out that Black Star is in the same case as them, so Tsubaki justifies that even though Black Star is an idiot, she thinks that she, too, can be an idiot. Maka and Soul finally realize their faults and Maka forces herself to hold Soul even though her hands burn. They resonance their souls, and this is so because Soul tells the imp to guide him. Maka feels that Soul is taking over and the two manage to almost defeat Free, but he loses due to his own blunder. Maka starts coughing out black blood.

Thoughts:

When I saw Free transform into the Legendary Werewolf, I seriously thought he was a gorilla or a hedgehog until the long tail appeared. This episode was pretty awesome and the fight scene was great as well. Lack of Death the Kid wasn’t even an issue since the episode didn’t seem to drag in any bits. I’m glad that Soul and Maka have finally gotten things figured out between them, and I’m really disappointed that Soul accepted the imp. How can you accept someone so hideous to guide you? It was pretty obvious that Medusa didn’t give a shit about Free, and hey, the name actually sounded kinda cool as well. I liked how Tsubaki yelled at Maka and Soul and brought them to their senses because their constant screaming at each other was sort of getting annoying. And no surprise that Free turns out to be a rather hilarious villain.
