The Problem with Sakaki (and Anime Crushes)

Posted by newgeekphilosopher 25 May 2008 10 Comments

Why do Nerds, suddenly appear? Every time, you are near? Just like me, they want to be… close to you…

The whole issue of Anime crushes is a crucial one in the Anime community, and puzzling for many women who simply can’t understand why somebody would abandon real women for two dimensional ones. It is indeed a dilemma for Anime fans, and an Anime crush is hard to get over. Why is it so hard to get over? Because Anime characters, although they can’t love you back, can’t reject you either. There is simply the indifference of the characters, you can see them but they can’t see you. They’re imaginary creatures, like Elves, only more real, because they are representations of humans most of the time.

Sakaki from Azumanga Daioh, as pictured, used to be the object of my affections, before I moved on to try my luck with real girls. So far I have met with the same success I did with 2D women, indifference. Some would argue that this would be a sign that I should stick to 2D women. But once you’ve tried 3D you can never go back unless you’re particularly lonesome. Sakaki is around the same age as me, that was her appeal, apart from her looks. She was shy, just like me. But what makes a man move to 3D in spite of all his Anime girl moe fantasies?

It is the hope that one day he will meet his true love in meat-world. By “meat-world” I mean the world of physical objects and people and animals and all the rest of those lovely things you enjoy every day. You can do a lot there. Except be united with your favorite Anime crush. The harsh reality was, for me, that Sakaki couldn’t love me back. Even Yomiko Readman from Read or Die can’t do that. Only real girls can, and though they seem to be indifferent to you, as an Anime geek or nerd, there’ll be someone out there, who might not be as well endowed or as loli as your favorite character, but she’ll be there for you at least.

Well, if you created a character purely from your own imagination, I imagine you could have him/her love you. Maybe. xP

Trust me, if you created a character, that would make them your son or daughter right? So making them love you would be incest/teh wrongness.

I’ve been writing original fiction for years now and that’s the rule I live by when it comes to creating characters.

eh, gals have anime crushes too ya know ;P
Of course if one REALLY intended to have a ‘healthy’ relationship in the meat world, taking an anime crush seriosly would be a major obstacle (I say have both :P)

I like to have both too, but girls I know can be so judgmental. They cannae accept my love of glasses girls, how can non-glasses wearing girls live up to my expectations unless they stop wearing contacts?

    Ah, this topic.

Well, I agree with you on some points, especially that ‘2D girls can’t reject you’ or that ‘have same characteristics’ train of thought. Ultimately it’s probably some sort of inner desire to be loved and whatsnot, but nothing beats having that special 3D someone there for you. After all every guy needs his girl (or otherwise). ^^

Think about something else for just a split second and she instantly turns into a trap. Just damn it.

Nope, no crushes here. I just wanted to say that I love the Carpenters.

I hear people talk about this kind of stuff but I really didn’t get super into anime until college when I started having better luck with girls, so I don’t have much to offer. Consider this a useless comment!
